Our Healthy Lunch Program (Almuerzos Sanos de la Escuela)
Last year, the Cardiff School District Cafeteria Manager, Sandy Smith, worked with our School Lunch Committee and a chef from Chickpeas (with funding from the Rob Machado Foundation) to continue our efforts in improving the taste and nutrition of our school lunches. We think you will like the results! Here are some highlights of the changes that have taken place:- Spaghetti and other pastas are whole wheat
- Breads are whole grain
- Many entrees are now "vegetable enhanced" which means that pureed vegetables are included in the recipes for items such as our spaghetti sauce, macaroni & cheese, refried beans, turkey tacos, etc.You won't even have to tell your kids!
- More menu items are homemade in the cafeteria kitchen, such as baked potato wedges instead of frozen French fries, homemade burritos instead of frozen, and many more!
- The cheese pizza now includes a "Choose your own Topping Bar".
- More fresh and seasonal fruits and vegetables will be available daily from our "Fruit and Veggie Bar".
- Salad dressings are homemade in the cafeteria kitchen
Menus and Nutritional Information#
Paying for Lunches# (Informacion de la Cafeteria de Cardiff )School lunch with milk costs $3.00. The most efficient way to pay for lunches is to prepay for multiple lunches; for example, $60.00 buys 20 lunches. Milk can be purchased separately for $0.35. The money you prepay stays in your student's account until it is used for lunch.You may prepay for lunches at the school office (cash or check) or on this secure payment page with a credit card.
It is our policy not to turn away any child at lunchtime and with everyone's busy schedule, lunch charges can add up. We ask that you re-pay lunch loans as quickly as possible. Please contact Laurie Schricker at Cardiff School or Tracy Conrey at Ada Harris for your child's cafeteria balance.
