Welcome to my Course Expectations page.
I have the same expectations in all of my classes. Please abide by the rules below to ensure that all students receive the benefit of a positive classroom environment
Respect - This is the most important expectation I have for my classes. My students are expected to give all other class members the respect that they would want to receive themself. I offer my students respect, and I expect the same from them. Not all individuals have the same viewpoints, backgrounds, religions, etc., and in my classroom all input is respected provided it comes from a place that gives respect to all.
Assignments - All assignments should be completed by the due date to give yourself and the rest of the class the benefit of a lively discussion and maximum use of class time. Assignments are not graded, but completion of all assignments is essential to performing well on tests and pop-quizzes
Testing - Tests will be administered at regularly announced intervals over the course term. Pop-quizzes will be administered for extra credit, to a maximum of 10 % of the overall grade. Thus, if a student scores 100% on all tests and 100% on all pop-quizzes, they can earn a final grade of 110% for the Testing portion of their grade.
Grading Policy - Grading is based on Testing (50% of final grade), Classroom Discussions (20%) and the final Group Project (30%).
Classroom Discussions - We will regularly be partaking in discussions regarding the content we are actively covering. This discussion is intended to foster a deeper understanding of events in history, and your participation will count directly toward your final grade. Some discussions will be within discussion groups, and some will take place with the entire class. Completion of assignments will be integral to your ability to participate in these discussions, so make sure your reading is up to date.
Group Project - You will be assigned to a discussion group at the beginning of the term. You will work with this group to not only discuss the content of the course, but to complete a group project. Grading will be the same for every member of the group, so you will need to divide responsibilities appropriately based on your group's individual member's strengths. This Group Project will be worth 30% of your final grade.
